Mayor of Medellin will give the actor John Leguizamo the Keys to the City

In the context of the launch of the 8th Colombian Film Festival, the Colombian-American actor John Leguizamo is visiting the city. During the visit, the actor will meet with the Mayor of Medellin, Alonso Salazar Jaramillo, who will give him the Keys to the City.

  •  The actor will offer a press conference at Intercontinental Hotel and there, the Mayor, will offer him a warm welcome. The event will take place next Monday July 26th, starting at 8:00 in the morning.
  • The actor will meet some referents of the city, such as the Metro Cable system, the Spain Library Park in Santo Domingo Savio, and the Moravia Cultural Center.
  • Leguizamo was invited to participate in the launch of the eighth version of the Colombian Film Festival, by the Corporación Festival de Cine de Santa Fe de Antioquia and the production company Contento Films, with support from the Medellin Mayor’s Office, the Agency of Cooperation and Investment of Medellin and the Metropolitan Area (ACI), and Medellin Convention Bureau.

Next Monday, July 26th, the Mayor of Medellin, Alonso Salazar Jaramillo, will give the actor Colombian-American John Leguizamo the Keys to the City; the actor is visiting the city these days as part of the launch of the 8th Colombian Film Festival.

The actor will receive the keys at the Intercontinental Hotel, in a meeting with the media. This is an invitation for the actor to feel at home and as a guest of honor in Medellin. The event will take place at 8:00 AM.

The Colombian-American actor, in addition to receiving the Keys to the City, will tour some places related to the transformation of Medellin in the world.

Leguizamo will meet the Metro Cable system, the Spain Library Park in Santo Domingo Savio, and the Moravia Cultural Center.

On Tuesday, July 27th, the actor will participate in a talk show with the Colombian film director, Victor Gaviria. Other participants are Orlando Arango and Alejandro Mora. They will talk about the festival, which this year has focused its discussion on the performance art.
The talk show will be held at 10:00 AM at the Teatro Prado, Águila Descalza. Access is free to the public.

Talent made in Colombia

John Leguizamo was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1964. At age four he emigrated with his family to the US, where he took acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York.

He began his career working in The Comedy Club Circuit. His film debut occurred in 1986 and since then Leguizamo has built a remarkable career with over sixty appearances in both film and television, as well as appearances in several Broadway theaters and numerous works as a producer.

In his career he joined more than 50 performances in American cinema and independent film industry.

The Festival

The eighth version of the Colombian Film Festival will take place between August 23rd and 27th.

For this release, the performance will be the focus of the academic program. National and international actors will integrate the valuable group of panelists.

For Colombia, the representation is on behalf of Santiago García, film and stage actor, Alejandra Borrero, television and film actress; Enrique Carriazo, film and television actor; Frank Ramirez, actor; Bernardo Garcia, actor in the movie "El Man”; Carolina Gómez, film and television actress; and finally the actor Humberto Dorado.

At international level, Guillermo Toledo (Spain), Damián Alcázar (Mexico), Giovanna Zacharias (Mexico), will take part as well as the main figure, John Leguizamo.

The Festival will provide a core sample of domestic films that have been released over the past year; they will be presented in open areas such as Metro stations, parks, houses of culture and Library Parks.
