5th Latin American Cluster Conference: 5CLAC

Medellin will host the fifth version of the Latin American Cluster Conference -CLAC, for the Spanish acronym- the annual Latin American meeting for the open exchange of experiences, methodologies and results in terms of competitiveness, economic development and cluster management topics.
- Two hundred Latin American delegates involved with the cluster-based model will be participating.
- Five components are part of the most important meeting of Clusters in Latin America.
The CLAC will run from June 21 to 25, at the Intercontinental Hotel of Medellin and will focus on five components:
1. International Business Meeting: 30 international buyers will meet on June 21 with local producers. This scenario represents a particular opportunity for entrepreneurs in clusters of Medical and Dental Services, Textile/Clothing, Design and Fashion, and Construction and Energy. Buyers are coming from Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Canada, and the United States.
2. Five Business Tours to meet the experience of companies belonging to the Clusters of Medellin. This event will be held on Tuesday June 22 and will include tours of companies such as Conconcreto, Cementos Argos, Espacios Inmobiliarios, Pintuco, Hermeco, Confecciones Olas, Inexmoda, Almacenes ÉXITO, Empresas Públicas de Medellin, Gamma – Aisladores Corona, Tronex Battery Company, Plaza Mayor, Santiago Puerta Logística y Mercadeo, In Situ Restaurant, the Pablo Tobón Uribe Hospital, Laboratorios Ecar, and Coomeva.
3. Conferences lead by national as well as international experts on cluster-based strategies, for instance, the lecture given by Carlos Alvarez, designer of the cluster policy in Chile. Speakers from the United States, Germany, France, Mexico, Argentina, and Spain will also take part in the event.
4. World café: a space to discuss the new ideas on the cluster issue in Latin America.
5. Integration activities.
The 5CLAC will bring together more than 200 delegates from all Latin American countries around the clusters as generators of business and development opportunities for the continent. The aim is to raise awareness of the effectiveness of working with the cluster-based strategy as it boosts productive specialization in the city and the region, increases the capacity of innovation and technological development, and enhances national and international investment.
Representatives from organizations who actively work on improving the competitiveness and development of strategic clusters, will be sharing their experiences at the event along with business leaders, entrepreneurs, directors of clusters, researchers, consultants, technical development agencies, educational institutions, government agencies, business associations, and multilateral organizations, among others.
The CLAC Leaders
The CLAC is promoted by The Competitiveness Institute (TCI), the Medellin City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce of Medellin for Antioquia. It will also be endorsed by various national and regional entities, committed to the cluster-based strategy as a generator of development and business growth.
